Lions Fall in Opener

The Lions paid for their mistakes during the home opener, as USC took a strong 2nd period to victory.  The Lions young roster had troubles at times vs. a strong returning USC team, and those mistakes led to most USC goals.  USC would jump out to a 2-0 lead late in the first, when Senior Captain Matt Boente rifled it top corner off a face-off.  The Lions would pressure late in the first, but would trail 2-1 after 1.  In the 2nd, USC scored three times to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the third.  USC would score twice more on a Five Minute major in the third, when Senior CJ Geeza took a pass and carried it wide, he fired it home for the Lions 2nd goal.  With 17 of the 21 players Freshmen or Sophomores, the Lions will look to grow throughout the season before they face USC again, twice in January.  LMU will be able to take the lessons from this game as they move on to a game at SDSU next week.  Thanks to the busses of fans who came out to the game and cheered on the team.
