The Lions officially opened their home schedule on Friday, hosting San Jose State, in front of the biggest crowd in team history! With over 325 LMU students in attendance, and roughly 500 in total attendance, the Lions topped the 500 attendance mark for the first time.
The Lions were excited to welcome Dr. Kawanna Leggett to drop the ceremonial first puck of the season, pumping up the crowd as she headed off the ice. And the Lions didn’t take long to keep the crowd cheering, as the team would score three goals in the first three minutes. Just :44 seconds into the game, Hawthorne would go forehand-backhand and put the puck upstairs into the net, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Just a minute later, Kampfner would score his first of the game, and doubling the LMU lead. And just :45 seconds after, MacGillivray fired a point shot home and giving LMU a 3-0 lead. The Lions would make it 4-0 as freshman Jeff Lee scored on a rush.
The pace slowed down some in the 2nd, but the Lions were able to score 3, leading 7-0, before the Spartans would poke home a lose puck from the slot, and LMU lead 7-1 after 2. In the third the Lions would score two in the final minutes, and won the game over SJSU 9-1. Kampfner would end the night with a hat-trick, winning player of the game awards from his teammates. Other Lions who scored were Skenderian and DeLaForest.
Profaci started his second game for the Lions, stopped 22 of 23 shots on the night, including a great glove save in the first to keep the Lions with the momentum.
The Lions move to 2-1 on the year, and face SJSU on Saturday night.
Thank you to our great fans who came out tonight, making it a record breaking game!
