Banquet and Season Recap!

The Lions held their end of season banquet, and the 6 annual awards were given out. The “Most Improved” award went to senior John “Loveshack” Lovelace. The “Squid Award” or Rookie of the year went to freshman Athan Tsokolas. The “Big Tip” award, for the player who exemplifies the ideals of LMU in their play went to Will Fraipont. The MVP award went to first year player Matt Boente, and the Coaches award and “Old Man Miller” award for the player who did the most for the team’s success went to senior Kevin Paynter.

The Lions had a trying season this year, but improved throughout and had some key victories throughout the campaign. Shorthanded from the start, with only 18 players on the opening day roster, the Lions played a tough schedule. With injuries magnifying the short roster, the Lions still managed to pull out 2 victories in the Kings Cup tournament at Staples Center, including a third place victory in the tournament. The Lions also won their Senior Night game against UCLA, winning 4-2. With the ups were a lot of downs, as the Lions are in the middle of a rebuild from their back to back Regional Tournament appearances. But the bright spots are apparent, with a solid freshman core set to return next season, and some high powered scoring as well. The Lions are looking forward to a big jump back towards the top next year!
