Footlick Shuts Out Long Beach

The Lions looked to get back in the win column, and found that on Friday night behind a strong performance by Junior goalie Jason Footlick.  Footlick made all 39 stops, and the Lions had goals from Hirai, Hertz and Billings.  The Lions would be under pressure early in the game, as Long Beach had a good crowd at its home opener.  Including getting into penalty trouble, the Lions were under assault early, but strong defense and goaltending kept the Beach off the board.

The Lions would score late in the first period as Ryan Hirai put home a nice shot from the slot to put the Lions up 1-0.  There would be no more scoring until midway through the 2nd period, when Justin Hertz tucked home a great pass from Eric Anderson, who tricked the Long Beach goalie with a behind the net pass.  Just a minute later the Lions would score for the final time on the night, as Austin Billings would score on the power play on a pass from Robby McClellan.

The third would see no scoring, though Footlick would be tested a few times.  The Lions move to 2-2 on the season with a huge 3 game weekend upcoming.  The Lions also move to 1-1 in conference, with a number of conference games upcoming.
