The Lions played their final regular season game on Saturday night, taking on a normal opponent for the first time this season. SDSU drove north to take on the Lions. The 11th Ranked Aztecs and the 18th Ranked Lions lined up for an important game in the final contest of the regular season for both teams.
The Lions came our firing, scoring on the first shift as Connor Kaczmarek tipped a point shot from Bryson Martin to give the Lions the early lead. The Lions would add another goal late in the first, as Brian Clem found a rebound on an Austin Billings shot and tucked it in to give LMU a 2-0 lead after the first.
In the second, SDSU would score first, sneaking a puck in on a wide angle shot, cutting the lead to 2-1 Lions. But LMU would score on the next shift, as Ryan Hirai would net his first of the game, the puck bounced off the boards on a point shot from Montoya, and Hirai was able to tap it in to the open net. The Lions would extend their lead to 4-1 on Hirai’s second goal of the game, tipping home a pass on a rush from Billings. SDSU would cut the lead to 4-2 with 5 minutes left in the 2nd, scoring on a rush down the left wing, and drawing a penalty on the same play. The Lions would kill that important penalty, and go on to score again in the second, as Austin Billings scored his first of the game, scoring on a rebound.
The third would start with LMU leading 5-2, and the Lions scored three times in the third. Swenson-Lennox snuck down from the point and scoring top shelf. Billings would add another on the power play, and Kaczmarek scored his second of the game on a breakaway. SDSU also scored once, giving LMU the commanding 8-3 victory over the 11th ranked Aztecs
