Coming off a tough winless weekend, the Lions looked to rebound, and did with three victories.
On Friday, the D2 Lions hosted CSUN for their second meeting of the year. In the first, the Lions held on for a tight 4-3 victory, but Friday’s game would be a completely different story, as the Lions scored early and often, taking the game 11-2. The Lions would score first, as Matisse Hawthorne scored his first of three on the night. LMU led the game 4-0 after one, with Skenderian scoring twice, and Lynch scoring his first of the night. In the second, the Lions would score three more, Hawthorne, DeLaForest and Kaczmarek, but CSUN would score two power play goals, and the Lions led 7-2 after two. Finally, the Lions added four more in the third, Kaczmarek, Lynch with his second and Hawthorne. Hawthorne led the Lions with 3 goals, six points. Kaczmarek also scored a hat-trick, and added an assist. Profaci gets the win with 29 saves.
The Lions held a rematch on Saturday, the third and final meeting between LMU and CSUN. The Lions would turn to their leading scorer, Hawthorne, to score in the first and give the Lions a 1-0 lead after one. In the second, the Lions would score three in a row, Skenderian, DeLaForest and Hawthorne with his second, before CSUN scored in the final minute of the 2nd, and the Lions led 4-1 after two. In the third, the Lions would score early, as Cigarran pushed the rebound over the line, to give the Lions a 5-1 lead. CSUN would keep up the pressure late, scoring twice as the clock clicked down, and the game ended with the Lions winning 5-3. The Lions sweep the Matadors in a season series for the first time in team history. Lissner was in net, stopping 22 for the victory.
Also on Saturday, the D3 Lions got back in action, as they traveled to Fresno State for their first meeting this year. The Lions didn’t show any bus legs, as they jumped out for the lead a few minutes in, as Lackey scored his first of two on the night. The Lions led 3-0 after one, with Gil and McMillan scoring their first of the nights. In the second the Lions extended their lead to 7-0, as Lackey and McMillan scored their second goals, and Nilsen and Freedman scored to give the Lions the comfortable lead. Fresno was able to score in the final minutes of the 2nd, but the Lions answered right back as Dragsbaek scored his first Collegiate goal, giving the Lions a 8-1 lead after two. In the third the Lions would pad their lead, as Freedman scored twice to complete his Hat-Trick, and Marcy and Gil would score to give the Lions the 12-1 victory. Cantillo was in net and stopped 17 of 18 shots for the victory.
