Lions Unbeaten in M2 with NAU Sweep

The M2 Lions stayed perfect in division, with a weekend sweep of WCHC Rival NAU.

In game 1, the Lions used a big third period to secure the 9-5 victory. The Lions scored first, as Wojcik finished the pass from Elias just 19 seconds into the game for a fast start.  NAU tied it  midway though the period, but the Lions rebounded with goals from McMillan and Lee, to lead 3-2 after 1.  In the second each team scored three times, with NAU getting the game gutted tied 5-5 before the Lions scored two to regain their three goal lead, goals from McMillan (2), Skenderian and Kaczmarek.  The Lions survived significant penalty issues in the second and kept the three goal lead.  But in the third NAU got into penalty trouble and the Lions extended their lead to 9-5, with goals from Kaczmarek(2), Lee (2) and Tangri.  Micah Kawai got his second win in his second start, stopping 29 of 33 shots.

In game 2, the Lions jumped out to another early lead, with Skenderian keeping his hot streak alive by scoring in the first two minutes.  Jeff Lee started off his strong night with a goal shortly after, before NAU scored twice in the middle to tie the game 2-2.  The Lions Zephyr Tangri scored his second on the weekend to give the Lions a 3-2 lead heading into the 2nd.  In the second the Lions extended their lead to 4-2 as Skenderian scored his second of the game.  NAU scored to bring it to 4-3, but the Lions scored one more from MacGillivray and led 5-3 after two.  In the third the Lions would score 3 more, Jeff Lee’s 2nd, McMillan’s second on the weekend and Kampfner scored to finish of the night for the Lions and a 8-4 victory.  Henry Lissner picked up the win to stay perfect on the year, 3-0, stopping 26 shots.

The Lions moved to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in division this year, and also secured their 4th WCHC victory in as many tries to sit atop the WCHC M2 standings.
