The Lions faced one of their tougher weekends taking on two good teams in UCLA and Colorado Boulder on back to back nights.
On Friday, the freshman John Profaci got the start in net and wouldn’t be beaten, leading the Lions to a 3-0 shutout. The Lions scored midway through the first, as Joe Kurita found the back of the net to give the Lions the eventual game winner. In the 2nd, the Lions would add two goals, as MacGillivray and Manzer would score to give the Lions a comfortable lead. UCLA would push though, hitting the post twice and pressuring the LMU end. Profaci stood tall, securing his first shutout in only his second game played. Turning away all 30 shots, the Lions took down last years top California team in a 3-0 shutout.
On Saturday the Lions would face an equally tough opponent in Colorado Boulder. The Lions would score late in the first, as Kurita found the scoresheet again, poking home a loose puck in the slot. LMU would double their lead later in the first, as Hawthorne fired home a puck from the slot, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead after an equally played first. In the second the Buffs would control play for segments of the period, but Profaci stood tall. Boulder was able to climb back into the game, finally beating Profaci on his 42nd shot of the weekend, a tough angle that got caught in his pads and trickled into the net. The Lions were on their heels for a portion of the third, but Bryson Martin would seal the game with 5 minutes to play in the third, scoring an unassisted goal off a rebound. The Lions would hang on in the final five minutes to win 3-1, and moving their record to 5-1 on the season. Profaci stopped 32 of 33 in the game, and 62 of 63 on the weekend to get his first two wins for the Lions.
